Praising God as one sure way of being blessed (Part 2)
Welcome to another edition of Empowerment for Living with Rev F B Obende on this 30th day of the month of August 2020. Today we will continue from where we stopped yesterday on the blessings that come as the people praise and give thanks to God. Kindly open your Bible the Book of Psalm 103:1-5 = “Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. 2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: 3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; 4 Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; 5 Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”
2) Like we saw yesterday, praising God is one sure way of contacting the uncommon blessings of God for apart from the fact that God truly deserves our praise, it draws us into God’s presence and there are miracles of blessings of increases and multiplication when we whole heartedly do it. The psalmist in the Book of Psalm 103:1-5 reminds us of not just the reasons why we should praise the Lord, but also the blessings we enjoy as we as children of God continuously give Him the praise that He deserves.
3) They are the blessings of the forgiveness of sins and healing of our diseases; redeeming our lives from destruction, crowning us with his loving kindness and tender mercies in addition to satisfying our mouth with good things and renewing our youths like the eagle. It must however be noted that our thanksgiving and praise must not just be on our lips alone as many of us do, but with all of our heart, souls and all that is within us. It must come from within us and from the bottom of our hearts for it is not all thanksgiving that God accepts. If you lack a relationship with Him, he will not accept your offer.
4) Our thanksgiving must stem from the fact that we have a personal relationship with Him; we are offering the best (Cain and Abel) and are offering the thanksgiving in obedience and according to His will and purpose (Saul in I Samuel 15:22). Most importantly, they must be praises that are prompted by the Holy Spirit of God for it is difficult to praise God and rejoice without the prompting of the Holy Spirit of God. We must realize that the Holy Spirit is the very presence of God within us and all believers, helping us live as God wants and building Christ’s church on earth. By faith we can appropriate the Spirit’s power each day. The end result of the Holy Spirit’s work in our life is deep and lasting peace. Unlike worldly peace, which is usually defined as the absence of conflict, this peace is confident assurance in any circumstance; with Christ’s peace, we have no need to fear the present or the future. If your life is full of stress, allow the Holy Spirit to fill you with Christ’s peace and then praise will become comely for you. We will stop here for now and believe God for new insight tomorrow as we round up our teachings on the theme for the month which is uncommon blessings.
